How does an Ionic Air Purifier work?

Many people wonder how an Ionic Air Purifier works.  There is no fan, so how does an ionic air purifier clean the air?

An ionic air purifier works on the principle of opposites.  Most particles in the air have a positive charge and negative ions have a negative charge.  So when an ionic air purifier emits negative ions the positively charged particles are attracted to them.

When the ionic air purifier puts enough negative ions in the air, the particles begin to clump together.  Eventually the clump gets too big to remain airborne and simply falls.  So not all the particles are collected by the ionic air purifier, they land on other surfaces.

The main point of the ionic air purifier is to take the particles out of the air so they can't be inhaled.  The particles that fall will be swept up through normal cleaning like dusting and vacuuming.  The effectiveness of an ionic air purifier is outstanding.
